Born in 1974, Klaten, Indonesia
Arie Dyanto is an Indonesian visual artist based in Yogyakarta. A graduate of Printmaking at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta, his practice explores urban life, social critique, and collective memory through painting, murals, graffiti, street art, and experimental media.
In 1997, Dyanto co-founded Apotik Komik, an influential art collective that brought art into public spaces and contributed to Yogyakarta’s development as a city of murals. His individual practice often draws from local vehicle culture, including custom bicycles and becak mudguards, transforming everyday objects into reflections on Indonesian social and economic life. His work has been presented internationally, including exhibitions and projects in Germany, Malaysia, the United States, and Australia.
