Born in 1982 in Bali, Indonesia
SLINAT (Silly in Art) is a Bali-based artist who began exploring mural and street art in 2000. His practice has since expanded from interventions in public spaces into studio works using various media, including charcoal, ink, tobacco, acrylic, collage, and found objects. His works often combine the visual language of street art with elements of Balinese tradition while responding to social and cultural changes around him.
SLINAT frequently addresses issues hidden behind the exotic image and glamour of Bali’s tourism industry. He often deconstructs archival photographs of Bali from the colonial era to question ideas of tradition, exoticism, development, social inequality, and contemporary Balinese life. His practice has been presented through murals, street art festivals, solo and group exhibitions, as well as international projects in the United States, Australia, and Germany.
