Jesral Tambun is a Gorga artist and traditional woodcarver from Medan, North Sumatra, born on 4 October 1990. He has been practicing Gorga carving since 2007, specializing in traditional Batak ornamental carving and Gorga panels. His work is closely connected to the preservation of Batak cultural heritage, including the revitalization of traditional Batak houses in several areas around Toba and Samosir.
Throughout his practice, Jesral has been involved in various cultural and creative projects, including Kita Muda Kreatif UNESCO, Meet the Maker, the Kongres Budaya AMAN, and the development of the Rangsani Gorga book. He has also contributed to projects combining tradition and contemporary approaches, such as designing a medal for the VR Duathlon Toba and participating in Pulang Kampung 3 with Sandra Niessen, where he created a traditional Batak musical instrument called Sorha.
