
Born in 1980, Cilacap, Indonesia
Faisal Kamandobat is an Indonesian poet, writer, researcher, and visual artist from Majenang, Cilacap, Central Java. He studied Anthropology at Universitas Indonesia and works as a researcher at the Abdurrahman Wahid Center for Peace and Humanities (AWCPH-UI). He also founded Sanggar Matur Nuwun, a community-based space that brings together art, knowledge, spirituality, and local development.
His artistic practice grows from his background in literature and anthropology, often connecting Sufi thought, Javanese and Islamic cosmology, local traditions, ecology, and contemporary knowledge. His works frequently combine text, manuscripts, drawing, and visual storytelling. Alongside writing poetry and essays, Faisal has participated in major exhibitions including ARTJOG 2025 and Biennale Jogja 18 (2025).
